Alberta Oil Could Help With The U.S. Energy Crisis

As Canada’s largest oil-producing province, Alberta could help relieve the global oil supply shortage, said Alberta’s Energy Minister, Sonya Savage on Sunday.

At the S&P Global CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, Savage claimed Alberta has some extra pipeline and rail capacity and can send additional oil to the United States.

Possibly referring to the U.S sending a group to Caracas to talk about oil sanctions, Sonya Savage told Reuters “We are the solution, not Venezuela and others.”

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, she claimed, it was “unconscionable” for any nation to purchase Russian crude oil at this time.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney tweeted he would be attending the conference in Houston as well. “We will be meeting with decision-makers to secure access to markets, attract job-creating investment to our province and argue for Canadian energy to displace Russian conflict oil,”

Kenney criticized President Joe Biden for rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline, which would have allowed Canada to supply “nearly 1 million barrels a day of responsibly produced energy” for the United States.

Russia, one of the world’s largest exporters of petroleum, has seen its oil cargoes rejected by buyers. About  4 to 5 million barrels of oil and 2 to 3 million barrels of refined products are exported from Russia per day.

Savage suggested that the United States should implement import bans on Russian crude oil just like Canada did last week by banning Russia’s imports of crude oil and providing anti-tank weapons to Ukraine.
