Berlin: Looking for Gas Suppliers for Potential Stabilization Measures

Robert Habeck, Germany’s economy minister, said Friday that the German government is in negotiations with other gas suppliers about possible stabilization measures, but only Uniper has officially applied for a bailout.

The Handelsblatt newspaper claimed on Thursday that in the event of a gas emergency, Berlin was considering granting assistance to German gas importer VNG of up to 2 billion euros.

Habeck also said that Berlin will do everything in power to stabilize the energy market that has been impacted by the decline of Russian gas supply, by requiring gas importers to buy gas at very expensive costs.

“We have enough gas. The supply situation is secured. But we are paying an immensely high price,” he added.
