On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is now one of China’s main exporters of oil and gas, with 13.8 billion cubic meters of gas transported to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline in 2022.

“According to the results of this year, Russia has become one of the leaders in oil exports to China,” said Putin in a video conference with China’s president Xi Jinping.

Putin further claimed that Russia supplied China with the second-biggest pipeline gas and the fourth-largest liquefied natural gas (LNG). He reported that daily exports in December were 18% more than expected.

Since Russia pushed its armed forces into Ukraine on February 24, when Western countries placed massive sanctions on Russia, the amount of Russian energy exports to China has increased drastically.

On November 29th, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak reported that the value of Russia’s energy exports to China had climbed by 64% this year, while the volume of those exports increased by 10%.
