On Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Alliston, Ontario, to discuss the greener local economy tax incentives included in the upcoming 2023 federal budget.

Trudeau visited the Honda plant in Alliston to promote what he called budget initiatives that will help middle-class jobs and the development of sustainable energy.

The Alliston Honda facility has been adjusting its processes to assemble hybrid-electric CR-Vs.

“When it comes to clean energy and clean technology, Canada is a world leader. That’s why companies from around the world continue to choose Canada – and above all, Canadian workers – to grow their operations,” said Trudeau.

In March of last year, the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario declared a combined $131.6 million to aid Honda Canada in modernizing its Alliston plant to develop hybrid-electric vehicles.

The government claims that the proposed tax credits will help it create more employment and promote a green economy in Canada.

The new budget proposes introducing a number of tax credits, including a 30% refundable Clean Technology Manufacturing Tax Credit and a 15% refundable Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credit for investments in new equipment and supplies used in the production of clean technology.

“The investments we are proposing in Budget 2023 will help us continue to build an economy that works for everyone, with good middle-class jobs, while leaving a stronger, healthier future for our kids,” Trudeau added.
