Caps on greenhouse gas emissions from oil and gas must be set in consultation with Alberta, politicians warn the federal Liberal government.

At the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would enforce a hard cap on emissions from the oil and gas sector, which accounts for about a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions in the country.

Premier Jason Kenney and Opposition Leader Rachel Notley agree that Alberta must be consulted on emissions caps.

In his latest statement, Kenney asserts that his government must be consulted before any decisions are made, and he reaffirms his call for a massive transfer of federal tax dollars to support projects that would capture and store carbon dioxide underground.

Notley believes that if the Liberals want to impose caps on greenhouse gas emissions, they should do so across the board in all sectors with significant emissions.
